Default Greetings from Denmark

Hello everyone!

My name is Hubert and I'm completely new to music making.

6 years ago I made my first and only original song, in FL Studios, using only mouse clicks and free vsts. In the meanwhile I've played the same few songs on the piano over and over again, to almost perfection, but never advancing.

So I'm probably as good as someone having played for 1 year (it was simply easier playing the computer, than ever straining to become better at anything). But now I'm trying to pick it up again!

I've bought a Novation Launchkey 49 as my MIDI keyboard, although I'm realizing that I should have gone with something without knobs and sliders, for my situation and use. Also I don't quite feel that the drumpads... perform... like I think they should. I don't know. But overall I'm glad with it.

Other than that, I just use my Lenovo L450 Thinkpad, that luckily I bought with 12 Gigs of Ram and then an old Tascam US-122MKII soundcard, a pair of DT 770 PRO's and if the occasion requires it, my Yamaha P95 Stagepiano.

My DAW of choice is Reaper, simply because of the pricing and then I've bought a subscription to ComposerCloud.

The kind of music that I enjoy is soundtrack music. My favorite non-soundtrack artist is probably Peter Gabriel.

I'm currently working on remakes of songs, simply because I can get to learn Reaper and ComposerCloud that way, without having to spend too much energy creating unique melodies, but soon I'll try to make something original too.

All my stuff is available here: https://soundcloud.com/djtjob/tracks

While it may seem a bit too early for someone like me to make an orchestral template, I'm currently working on one, simply because I think I would feel more easily inspired if all the instruments were already at my hand. (IF someone should have a composercloud/eastwest symphony template for reaper already, I would love to have it!)

I'll leave it at that Looking forward to using the forums.

Hey Hubert,

welcome to the forum.

Nice to see that you're picking it up again. It's mostly
a mental barrier, I guess - after all, it is really a lot of
stuff that you need to learn, memorize and then also
use correctly.

If you click on the "Tips and Tricks" link in my signature
you'll find a lot of articles, blogs, books, videos and other
resources concerning (MIDI) orchestration.

Concerning a template, I have mine listed in that link. It
wasn't created for Reaper, but since I only listed the instruments
anyway, feel free and copy it.

Hope it helps.

Cheers.
