Default I'm 47 going on 15!

Hi. My nameís Mat. First off, Iím really glad I found this forum. You seem like a great bunch of guys; friendly, vigilant and very helpful. I think Iím going to like it here and in time I hope to become an integral part of whatís going on.

Iíve been playing music since I was 7 years old. My Grandma was a concert pianist in college and my Grandfather was a jazz and big band aficionado to say the very least. As a kid Mozart, Coltrane, Prokoviev and Count Basie, to name a few, made a huge impact on me.

I started playing the drums around the age of twelve and saw myself as the next Louis Bellson or Buddy Rich. That was until I discovered KISS and Peter Frampton when I was 13. I knew I wanted to be a Rock star! Well, you might imagine the ruckus this stirred up.

I also watched a lot of TV growing up and I loved movies. What was more, I loved movie music. The first soundtrack album I bought all on my own was ĎJawsí. I found I was more scared just sitting there listening to the music than I was watching the movie itself.

NowÖ ever since I started seriously writing music I have literally always heard people say that I should be writing music for movies. Well, that was all fine and good and thank you very much, but Iím going to be a rock star.

Iíve done a lot of pretty cool things, but I never did become that rock star.

A couple of months ago, I took a remastered copy of a work I did ten years ago into my friends at the music store I go to. I played it for them and they said, ďYou wrote this??Ē [here it comes] ďÖ This is really good! You should be writing music for movies!Ē Keep this in mind, Iíve never even used MIDI beyond getting one keyboard to talk to another. So, after an hour or so of these guys telling me all that I could be and should be doing with my music. I started getting really excited. Like I was fifteen all over again.

Iíve done nothing for the past month and a half but read everything I can get my hands on about all this new technology and itís possibilities. I wonít have to spend hours writing out score anymore and the best part, Iíll never again have to rely on all the members of a ďbandĒ.

So, there it is. Iím here and Iím ready to tackle it all.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.

NOW, LETíS BUY SOME GEAR!!!

Wow! What a welcome! I'd been watching this forum for a week or so and it did seem like a pretty good one to join and I'm already really glad that I did.

There really seems like there's A LOT of talent here and not just that, a lot of 'gracious' talent; a feeling that there IS room for everyone.

I do and will have PLENTY of questions in the coming weeks and I already feel that I'll be able to rely on you guys. Thanks a million in advance.

I'm also not that bad at Photoshop so I put together a little Christmas greeting for y'all. From left to right: Troy, OEJ, Vlad, Elphie and Bowzer. Ok..... So I name my guitars. What of it?
