Default Play 6.03

jim476,

I have Symphonic Choir Platinum and it does not require Play 6. Did you purchase Play 6 for the added features?

I'm light years from being a technical expert, so I can only relay what was told to me. When I upgraded from Symphonic Choirs Gold to Platinum, I was told I'd need Play 6. I was also told that if I wanted to use Platinum with Finale 25, I'd have to wait until Play 6.0.3 comes out.
I'm waiting for the release of 6.0.3 before I download and install Platinum. Sorry, but I don't have the knowledge to tell you whether Platinum will work with Play 5, or if Play 6 will give better response than 5.

You only need Play 6 for Hollywood Choirs.

Default Update

jspencer and Sent4th --
I re-checked with Lorenz, an EW support agent.
Here's the lowdown: Yes, you can use Choirs Platinum with Play 5. Play 6, though, provides new phonemes for better clarity, along with other improvements. I will need version 6.0.3 for my use, since 6.0.2 does not work with Finale, and 6.0.3 is supposed to correct that.

You also need it for Voices of the Empire, and in fact, the very latest version, 6.0.3, to be released tomorrow morning.

For anyone on old and new libraries, and whether you have SC or HC, or whether you intend to buy Voices of the Empire or not (which I really recommend but that's a different topic), for the $30 or so it costs to upgrade it really is a no brainer.

If nothing else, it has two major things going for it:

1. better organization of all instruments across all libraries. You can now search across everything EW has ever released. This is a biggie as it is so easy to get lost amidst the thousands and thousands of instruments and patches and what have you. A lot of other VI manufacturers have something similar (NI with Kontakt, Omnisphere, Synthmaster, not to mention standalone synths by NI which have had this for years such as Absynth). It really saves a lot of time searching for something especially when you're in a time crunch.

2. you can leave notes about what you like or not, what midi controls to use, etc.
