Well whenever it freezes for ~10 seconds, I now know why and don't get quite so annoyed!

Naturally it's now not happening as often, but the 'problem' still persists. Saving the project (and copying several chunks of midi, wierdly) cause everything to go unresponsive for a few seconds. It's a bit irritating considering the amount of money I've dumped into the system, but I would expect having 32 separate instances of Play 6 running (with almost 19GB of RAM used by loaded articulations at cache level 0) might have something to do with it.

Cubase 10 Pro doesn't seem all that well optimised for hyperthreaded CPUs either - just did an export and only seven threads were being used.

Sorry , Louis Marlowe, didnt see your last post.
but your problems, seems to be related to
Cubase 10, Dont you have a “old” cubase
8/9 lying around, you could try??.
As i remember, Steinberg Cubase License
version 10, i believe , can allso accept
installing version 9?!.
Atleast , i can with my Cubase element, allways
install 6-7-8 and have them installed on same system,
even run cubase element 7 or 8 , the Steinberg Elicense
which i have on the usb thing, allows me to run cubase 7 or 8..
Anyway, best thing to do, is to open a Steinberg support
ticket, that way you may get help.
And you could allso email Soundsonline for
support.

I upgraded from the extremely antiquated Cubase 5.5 and I've gotten rid of it from my old system. It's a bit unusual, as Cubase 10 is installed to its own SSD.

It seems like the volume of Play instruments is what's causing save times to take so long. But considering my old system couldn't even play legato 1st Violin patches without audio dropouts, my frustration is pretty small.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but @LMW - how long does it normally take you to load up your template?

I'm just curious to know because my full orchestral template takes ~40 minutes to load, and I'm not sure what I should be expecting. I am using the heaviest possible articulations (i.e. StacSl BC + Port + Slur Legato for strings) wherever possible, and two mic positions loaded for each.

Don't quote me, because I haven't timed my template in quite a while,
but it's around the 25-30 minute mark for my orchestral scores.

Depending on your drives, and the system specific settings, those times
are indeed to be expected. I usually recommend booting the computer
and loading the project and only then going for breakfast.

Everything will load and you've eaten and had your morning tea / coffee.

Yeah I normally load the project/template, go have a shower, get dressed, make a cup of tea, and it's ready to go - just checking that I'm not the only one!

Nah, definitely not. Even the super fast drives still have quite long load times,
though it obviously does go down the better they are. They mostly hit the
10 minutes mark. Template size dependent, of course.

p. 19: The Sample Cache feature allows you to determine how many
of the samples are loaded directly into RAM or are streamed from the drive.
Test out different levels to see what works best for you.
p. 56: The Sample Purge feature allows you to remove any not used
samples from the RAM.

For those interested in a well benchmarked analysis on clock speed, intel, amd and cpu core counts for DAW scenrios - give this excellent article a read

http://www.scanproaudio.info/2018/10...-lake-refresh/

The graphs for low latency are particularly telling and important if you are doing real-time recording. Thankfully more things aren't on the realtime path in a good DAW these days.

I use a threadripper 1920x with cubase 9.5 and Rme aio pci-e soundcard. 64 g ram and HO diamond on NVM-e. I can use diamond strings with 32 samples and latency less than 2 ms. The pc is fully tweaked and dedicated for vst/audio.
