Smile Ssd drive suggestions

Hi all,
I am a composer Cloud Member and Ive run out of space on my 500gb samsung t5 ssd drive. I need at least a1tb or a 2tb ssd instead.
Im wondering though: does anyone know of equally Capable ssd's that are cheaper than the samsung t5 series?
Any recommandations would be greatly appreciated!
Best wishes,
Andreas

Hey Andreas,

the drive connection itself. Also referred to as the bandwidth, this is important,
as this determines how much you can transfer from the drive to the computer.
And this is theoretically problematic. If the drive rpm is higher than the bandwidth,
then you will experience a throttle in this scenario. The rpm rate might allow for a
theoretically higher read speed, but the bandwidth limits the potential.

This also means, that having 2x 1TB 450mb/s is better than 1x 2TB 450mb/s,
since the former will allow you for more simultaneous reads, even though the GB size
is exactly the same.

Do you mean internal or external drives? There's a difference between them.
I myself have three Samsung T-series drives which I use on a regular basis.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply! I mean the external drives. Currently I have the 500gb version.
Will there also be a performance drop from external samsung t5 500gb to external samsung t5 1tb?
Best
Andreas

No. That difference is negligible. I personally only have 1TB SSD drives.
I find it's a good balance between good price, good safety (not too much
data in one spot) as well as bandwidth usage for streaming.

Thanks for your reply LMW!
Ok good, then I might supplement my 500gb with a new 1tb as a solution. This breeds a new question :
Since Im working on a macbook i have a limited number of usb ports. What is an example of a concrete usb hun device will not lower the ssd speeds of my external drives?
Best,
Andreas

Is that MBP a 13" or 15" version? That would be 2 or 4 ports respectively.
Optimal would be a powered hub into which you plug the peripherals (if any)
and the smaller sized drive with the less used libraries into it, and the larger
SSD with the most often used libraries onto its own port.

As to why powered? The drives will otherwise pull from the MBP via the hub.
There can be certain issues with that where not enough energy is being provided.
