Default HO (Strings): Passages with mix of long and short articulations

In SO Strings I used keyswitching to switch between long and short articulations.
In HS there is only long notes in the keyswitch. So how do you guys do it?

Just make another track with a short articulation for those parts.

I use a midi track for each articulation. It also helps with layering articulations and generally seeing what is happening.
