Default Reinstalling Colossus

My Muse Receptor that housed my Colossus library is dead and gone. This leaves me with the disks and original ilok. I am forced to start over with a pc and ipad. As far as Colossus is concerned I installed Gig Performer for vst's, but don't know how to handle Colossus installation.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hey Bernie,

Colossus is our old NI / Kompakt version library. We no longer provide support
for those systems ever since we switched to our proprietary Play engine back in
late 2009 / early 2010. If you want to use that, you'll need to contact Native
Instruments support directly.

We do offer an upgrade to our Play version library of Colossus, namely Goliath,
which also includes several additional instruments. You can get that here:
http://soundsonline.com/goliath

In the first drop-down menu, you can select "Upgrade" and then Colossus.
The upgrade price is $99. The library itself would then be available as a download
via our Installation Center. http://www.soundsonline.com/Support?...ates&article=3

Cheers.

Hi Lorenz
Thank you for the reply. It seems that this is the better way to go. Can this be installed on a flash or SD in my pc, as I have a total of 83 gb available?

The size of the library is 40GB. As for the location, basically anything should and will do.
Of course, there will be certain limitations to the amount of instruments, which
you are then able to simultaneously stream from the location, if your using a
flash drive.

With Goliath, specifically, it shouldn't be that much of an issue, though.

---

Misc computer / Play settings - Here are a few things, which
you can do to improve your DAW capabilities:

- Turn off WIFI and BlueTooth
- Unplug your LAN cable (basically, get off the internet)
- Turn off all background programs such as security etc.
Depending on your security settings, these might actually
be scanning the samples prior to them loading / playing.
- Only open your DAW. Check how many programs are
automatically run upon startup.

NOTE: Please remember that the turned off security settings
should be re-enabled prior to connecting to the internet again!

- Bounce to Audio and use a .wav file in lieu of live playback. This
will result in less system resources being used, but the downside
is that it can't be edited anymore.

p. 19: The Sample Cache feature allows you to determine how many
of the samples are loaded directly into RAM or are streamed from the drive.
Test out different levels to see what works best for you.
p. 56: The Sample Purge feature allows you to remove any not used
samples from the RAM.

I appreciate your willingness to help, and the wealth of information you supplied will take a while to peruse. I definitely will stay in the EW/Soundsonline camp. I have been a hardware keyboard performer for many years, and this is a daunting endeavor. I am starting from scratch with Gig Performer, and need to add compatible VST plugins. I see EW has these on other programs. Is Goliath suitable?

All of our libraries (such as Goliath) load into our proprietary Play engine.

There might be an issue specifically with Gig Performer: We do not officially support
this DAW / host, so you'd be a bit on your own there. It's fully VST / AU compatible
according to GPs website, so there shouldn't be an issue, really.

See this link for a list of fully EastWest compatible DAWs.

I've allowed myself to test it quickly on Windows 10, and the Play engine does seem
to load properly and receive the MIDI input. So basically, playback wasn't an issue.
Admittedly, I did use the GP keyboard that you get when clicking on the orange
MIDI In (Omni) button (my controller is on my other computer).

I don't know how to record and export to audio in GP, though. I
expect you know how to do that properly, so I'll leave that to you.

You can download our Play engine and see (albeit without a library), if it loads into GP for you:
WIN: http://software.soundsonline.com/Pro..._5.0.6_Win.zip
MAC: http://software.soundsonline.com/Pro..._5.0.6_Mac.zip

There was an issue with the scaling of the Play engine GUI in GP (see screenshot 1),
but that was resolved as follows:

- Locate the GigPerformer.exe in C:\Program Files\Gig Performer.
- Right click on the file and select Properties, go to the "Compatibility" tab.
- Under "Settings" put a checkmark in "Override high DPI scaling behavior".
- Set "Scaling performed by" to System.

It'll then load properly again (see screenshot 2 below).

We'll be glad to help you out with our libraries, but as far as support for GP concerns, this is about it!

Cheers.

I cannot believe the trouble you went to in explaining this, Lorenz, You people are a pleasure to do business with. I will try and wrap my head around this and proceed in my hardware assessment.

Thanks again
Bernie

I ordered an exterior drive. When I comes in I will get the cross grade Goliath.

It was quite fun, actually, getting my hands around a new DAW.

Alright then. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Lorenz, being the wizard you obviously are, I can only imagine the fun you had. The fact is that you were willing to go the extra mile to help me, which I don't forget.

Your disclaimer regarding GP, I am assuming, is simply because you hadn't previously tested it. Still, I wonder if it the best way to go for a novice. I am not married to anyone except my wife, so if you have a better suggestion for another engine, let me know. I just feel the big DAWs are too intimidating.

I'll be back! That's a promise, not a threat.
Thanks,
Bernie
