Default Throwback Thursday

Do you remember the days when you ordered an EW library, and you would get a huge shiny box in the mail?

I love the boxes! I still have all of mine, plus the box/DVD's for the old Complete Composer Collection (or whatever that old Kompakt version was called), it has a ton of DVD's in it (40??), including Gold XP and Colossus.

Yeah, I have several of those "Kompakt" based versions as well as the Play version ... Symphonic Orchestra, Symphonic Choirs, Boesendorfer, Hard Core bass, etc. When Play was released (when was that? 2009?) you could upgrade to the Play version, and get another big shiny box. Ah, the days.

I just love the library designs. They're very beautiful, imo.
Only got the one single CCC Pro box myself. I use the wallpapers
as screensavers on my DAW, though (Do I get bonus EW points for that? ).

Silk is my favorite one by far - not only library wise.

Play implementation was late 2009, iirc.

I believe you could sell several collections on one flash drive now.

A handful would cover the whole thing (I think)

You probably could ... I have pretty much everything by EW (except MOR2), it's a little over 1.5 TB in total. That easily fits on a 4 TB Samsung external drive.

It's really amazing how far computer technology has come in just a few years ... at some point EW had the "teradisk" with a copy of all of their samples (or at least the big ones), at that time 1 TB was pretty much the largest size unless you were willing to pay a lot of money.

It's also amazing how much easier the entire installation process has become, not just EW, but e.g. also NI. Back in the day you had to install every individual VST, loading DVD after DVD after DVD, and then download upgrades, installing them, and so on. Now the Installation Center manages the entire process, including updates. I recently had to reinstall Windows and all programs -- fatal error when trying to boot. Samples are on two separate SSD drives. Downloading and reinstalling and then linking them to the libraries took maybe an hour ... quite a different picture.

Yeah, the artwork for the libraries has always been exquisite. Silk is wonderful, but Gypsy is really nice, too ... and I like the classic design for the Hollywood series. I'm a bit nostalgic but I really enjoy looking at those big shiny boxes. That's something the cloud users do not have.

Yes I bought a lot of products before downloads so I still have all my boxes as well (probably at least 10 of them haven't counted recently) although I'm beginning to think I could use the book shelf space for other things. So it might have to move them out or just cut out the covers for nostalgia.
