Default If a PC motherboard has only two 1-GB memory slots ...

... there's no way to use more than two memory modules, is there?

ie, can the PC only ever "see" modules in the two existing physical slots, or can you plug some kind of expander into a slot that will let the PC see four 1-GB modules?

Yes, you can only use up to 2 1GB RAM sticks.

I suggest you get a MOBO that has the standard 4 RAM slots supporting up to 2GB sticks each.

Always check your MOBO specs, in this case if his MOBO supports 1GB modules it wouldn't 'see' the 2GB sticks.

Remember those chasis-type things that allowed you to 'stack' your RAM vertically??? Those weren't the days...
