Default Would loading EW instruments on an external SSD with Thunderbolt tax my CPU?

Hi all, running a late 2013 MacBook Pro that barely meets EW's minimum requirements.

Kontakt, with just one instrument loaded, brings Logic sessions to a grinding halt.

I'm hoping to use Play 5 with a cloud subscription.

Without a demo instrument, I don't know how well Play will perform in a real mix.

I'm leaning towards an external SSD with Thunderbolt rather than EW's 7,200RPM drive. I'm on a tight budget but want to get the best performance I can afford.

Will running EW libraries from an external SSD with Thunderbolt tax my CPU more than running libraries on my internal SSD?

I don't have much space on my internal SSD, just need a comparison.

Thanks.

I'm the same guy from the other thread you just responded to but I'll reply here too to keep things clean:

2.4GHz Intel Core i5
8MB RAM - 1600MHz DDR3

If you run the smaller libraries (ie; Symphonic Orchestra Gold), you should be fine. However, you will inevitably struggle with the Hollywood series. 8GB Ram isn't going to be enough, you need at least 16GB in addition to hosting on an external SSD. I also highly recommend a USB audio interface.
