Have all unknowns been cleared from Device Manager?

If so, see if you still get the DAW issues you had before.

What I find odd about these audio drop-outs, is that they don't correspond to any kind of peaks on Latency Checker or Monitor. I don't know what to make of that.
Admittedly they are not a huge problem - maybe one irregularly every 5 minutes or so- but obviously I'd like to eliminate them if possible.

So, are they still occurring now?

Right. The device manager still has an unknown thing.
Other Devices > Unknown Device.
It says...
Unknown Device
Device type: Other devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: on ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)... etc.

This is weird because as far as I can tell all my USB devices are accounted for - my mouse, my UR22, a HDD, and my Cubase dongle.

I don't know what this could be.

Don't worry about it for now.

Does your DAW system now work as it is supposed to?

It's strange.
Having a look at my USB set up via USBTreeView it seems as though I have the ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - but no actual ports attached to it! Peculiar.
As for the intel side of things everything seems ok, but every time I restart I get a box saying 'Do you want to run this file' and trying to install the iusb3mon.exe which was part of the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Driver that I installed earlier.

And through all this the occasional audio drop outs keep happening!

Let it install, as it monitors power usage by USB peripherals. It may clear up the missing item in Device Manager, if not immediately, after whatever 'devices' installing the iusb3mon.exe exposes.

Do the above first. Do the dropouts still occur?

I keep letting the file run as it requests, but nothing really changes.
In USBTreeView although all the devices plugged into the intel eXtensible thingy are visible and seem to be functioning, the driver details for the actual Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller list some errors.
Similarly the ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller details an installation error (explaining the lack of actual ports).
Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall these again but with no devices plugged in?
Maybe the installation while USB devices were plugged in confused it somehow.

Yes, try that. Need to get to a clean predictable system.

Right then!
Well, after a bit of faffing I finally sorted out those recent anomalies. I have working ASMedia and Intel USB ports without any weird unknowns in Device Manager.
And the flagrantly AsRock related utilities are gone.
I'll see if there are any more dropouts. Because they're relatively infrequent in the first place, checking for them takes a while!
If the problem remains I suppose the next port of call might be the LAN drivers - I've heard them mentioned as being among the usual suspects for this kind of thing.
Eek! Just heard a drop out! A split second after opening task manager to see how things were looking. Grrr! - And again, no sign of any kind of peak in DPC Latency Checker.
