Default New EastWest user... Help with library size

High School Band Director in a galaxy far, far away... then a 30 year career outside of music... now retired... music hobbyist only... just set up an M-Audio keyboard... my PC is a 27" iMac with 4.0GHz cpu and 32GB ram... latest Mac OS... Logic Pro X... been using this for a few weeks.

I quickly discovered that I wanted better orchestral samples which brought me here. I will be signing up for the cloud subscription to get started. My question is about file sizes and HDs. On this site, It looks like the Hollywood Orchestra Gold download is only 95GB... Solo instruments Gold 18GB... Pianos Gold... 50GB... Choirs Gold... 9GB. Are these numbers correct?

If so, I have a 250GB SSD and an external USB 3.0 enclosure not in use. Would that drive be adequate to download and stream the above samples for use inside Logic Pro X? If this SSD is adequate, is there a certain way I should format it in Mac OS for optimal use with EastWest data?

Much to learn...

Thanks

Hi Blazer and welcome to the forum. Yes, those numbers seem right. I have all of those libraries except Pianos though I bought them separately rather than in the 'Orchestra' package. Same thing in terms of file sizes though. AFAIK your drive and enclosure should work perfectly via USB 3.0 for streaming those libraries. Just format it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and all should be well. (No doubt someone will correct me if there is a better format for SSD's as I only have a HDD.) Under Windows you can also specify the sector size which can be helpful (again, this might be more for HDD's) but you can't do that within Disk Utility. Not sure how necessary it is for Macs or SSD's anyway.

I imagine your setup will be more than adequate for your needs. Enjoy!
