Hmm. I guess. It's just frustrating a little utility like DPS Latency Checker can't point a way to the problem - it's always been my go to utility for issues like this in the past.
Can you think of any diagnostic utilities I can run that might be able to at least notice something like an audio dropout is happening?
I've been trying to see if I can update my chipset drivers. The Intel Driver Update Utility has never been very good so I'm trying to do it it manually on the Intel Download Center page. I choose Desktop Boards, but then the options it gives are all alien to me. I have an X99 board, but that is not an option there.
Any suggestions would be vastly welcome!

I'm afraid my knowledge on Windows is vastly limited (just the classic "did you update the drivers?" and "did you try restarting the computer" fixes )

OK jamieboo,

It looks like it's time to put your new setup details into your signature, just so we can easily refer to it while helping you.

@jamieboo,

Did you allow Windows to load the motherboard drivers, or did you load AsRock's version from their disc/site?

As far as I recall, I downloaded the latest motherboard drivers and stuff from the AsRock website. Was that a bad idea?

In general, yes.

Motherboard manufacturers typically supply several utilities and services that, while they consider them useful to 'optimise' the motherboard operation, often for gaming, may not do real-time multi-channel streaming any favours at all. They may also be rather on the bleeding edge side of stability.

I would uninstall the motherboard drivers, then restart you computer, and let Windows do its stuff. Let us see if that takes care of some things.

The drivers via Windows are from the manufacturer, but without the bloat nor installation optionals, and tend to be known stable versions.

Its something that started with Vista, where you could replace the motherboard or video card, and just let Windows safely changeover the drivers, something that was a pain under XP.

Ok, I'll give this a go.
But the trouble is I don't really know what exactly was installed from the AsRock disk. Obviously I can identify all obvious stuff labelled AsRock in the Installed Programs list but with other stuff - drivers and things - I might not know if it necessarily came from the AsRock disk.
I suppose I can have a look at the contents of the disk and see exactly what was on there, then uninstall all that?
Yes, maybe I'll give that a go.
Thanks.

For the moment, just uninstall the stuff that has AsRock in the Name or Publisher columns.
