Default Hollywood strings hard drive choice

Hi. I am thinking of buying Hollywood Strings Diamond . I currently have a lot of EW products on an external USB C G Drive, connected to a 2018 IMac QUAD CORE with 16 GIG of RAM. I see that the recommended spec is an SSD drive on a MAC PRO for the HOLLYWOOD instruments. My question is whether I am going to get proper use out of this library with the equipment Iíve got or is it going to be limited to a few patches or instances and overload the processors with glitches?
Any advice appreciated

Hey,

moving this to our hardware section of the forum.

RAM: 16GB will work. Do you know the MHz rate?

CPU: Quad-core. Ok, and what's the GHz rate?

Drive: USB C G-Drive. What's the drive format (exFAT or Mac Os)?
How much space does it have and how much is used up (in %)?

---

Misc computer / Play settings - Here are a few things, which
you can do to improve your DAW capabilities:

- Turn off WIFI and BlueTooth
- Unplug your LAN cable (basically, get off the internet)
- Turn off all background programs such as security etc.
Depending on your security settings, these might actually
be scanning the samples prior to them loading / playing.
- Only open your DAW. Check how many programs are
automatically run upon startup.

NOTE: Please remember that the turned off security settings
should be re-enabled prior to connecting to the internet again!

- Bounce to Audio and use a .wav file instead of live playback. This
will result in less system resources being used, but the downside
is that it can't be edited anymore.

p. 19: The Sample Cache feature allows you to determine how many
of the samples are loaded directly into RAM or are streamed from the drive.
Test out different levels to see what works best for you.
p. 56: The Sample Purge feature allows you to remove any not used
samples from the RAM.

Cheers.

Ram is high but CPU is low. Ideally you should have got the i7 model. It's probably ok but if you have a crazy big session or start mixing on top of it, you might run into issues.

I use Samsung Pro SSDs but given that your computer itself is more budget you might wanna go with the Evo series or the "T" external drive series.

There is substantially lower overhead (=faster transfers) when formatting with larger allocation units.

Even with HDDs, transferring a GB of mixed-size files between two drive with 64kB block was 30-50 faster than the default 4kB.

For samples on SSDs, format with 256kB allocation units, which is the native SSD read/write block size. That minimises the writes, and results in less than 2% wasted space. That's because sample files are mostly multi-MB so there are few partially filled blocks.
