Default Voices of Opera- Can you spread three-syllable words over three pitches?

I am familiarizing myself with Voices of Opera (AMAZING!) and am not sure if I am doing something wrong or trying to do something that is not possible.

Using the Mod Wheel I am able to spread two syllable words across two pitches. However, if I try to spread a three syllable word (e.g., Fortuna) across three pitches, it doesn't work. the first two syllables are separated when I assign a mod wheel value above the cutpoint for advancing to next syllable, but the third pitch starts at the second syllable.

I just want to know how the instrument is supposed to work.

Thanks,
Mark
