Default Getting a more smooth sound out of strings

I've been working with Hollywood Strings Diamond for a few years now, but I am always a little bothered by the "rough" sound that I get out of the strings. I'm not sure why. I'm looking for something very smooth, very homogenous sound, like a real string section, but I can't seem to get that out of my arrangements.

I'm chalking this up to my own ignorance rather than a problem with the library, so does anyone have any advice on how to smooth out the sound of the strings? e.g. certain patch combos, certain EQing techniques. Perhaps I've just got everything too loud in the mix and need to bring it all down some...

please check the "Tips and Tricks" link in my signature.
Especially the first follow-up link will give you a plethora
of articles, blogs and YT-videos on VSTi orchestration.

Also, please do consider sharing an audio track with us
for review. That'll allow us to pinpoint (or at least narrow
down) what the issues are.

Note that the first I would check is if you're using MIDI CC
data. Nearly all of our libraries and patches use MIDI CC,
especially 1 / 7 / 11 for more expression.
